How to Cook Artichokes

Always rinse the artichokes before cooking. Make sure to use cold water. Remove dirt and any other unwanted particles from your artichokes. Use a knife to remove the tops of the artichokes. Pull out any remaining thorns.

Prepare a solution of salt and water. Boil the artichokes in this for 20 to 45 minutes. Turn the heat down if the artichokes are soft.

You can also steam the artichokes. The process should take about 15 to 30 minutes. Check the artichokes frequently if they are tender.

Apart from boiling and steaming, you can also microwave your artichokes. Wrap each artichoke in plastic and microwave them for 8 to 15 minutes. Once the artichokes are tender, drain them upside down thoroughly. You can use melted butter, garlic mayonnaise, or homemade mayonnaise as a dip for your artichokes.

You can also choose to cook only the inner leaves and the hearts of the artichokes.

Fill a bowl with cold water and add lemon juice. Remove the tough outer leaves of the artichokes until you notice the tender or light green artichoke leaves. Cut off the top inch from each artichoke. Cut the artichokes into four. Put the quarters in a separate container and work on the remaining artichokes.

Using a spoon, remove the purple and white inner leaves found in the artichoke’s center. Slice each artichoke quarter into small pieces. The size of each piece would depend on you.

Put the artichoke slices in the bowl. Perform the same steps on the remaining quarters. After a few minutes, you can then stew or sauté the slices depending on your preference.
