Before cooking rice, you need to determine how many cups you need to cook. Put the desired amount in your cooking pot and rinse it with water.
By using your hand, rinse and get rid of any starch and impurities. Remove the water from the pot. Use a sieve to prevent the rice from spilling. Rinse again until the water is clear.
Next, you need to measure how much water is needed to cook the rice. For every cup of rice, you need about 1 ½ cups of water.
However, the ratio will vary depending on the type of rice you use. Some cook rice with a one to one ratio, meaning one cup of rice with one cup of water.
Boil the rice at medium heat. Cover the pot until it boils. When the rice is boiling, reduce the heat to medium low. Put the lid on the pot at a tilted angle to allow the steam to come out.
Give the rice a few more minutes to cook. While doing so, check if it has holes or craters. When you see the holes or craters, put the lid on the pot tightly. Reduce the heat to low.
Simmer the rice for 10 to 15 minutes. Do not remove the lid while simmering. Once the rice is cooked, use a fork to fluff it up. Finally, use a serving spoon, take the rice out of the pot and serve it in a large plate.
