Tofu can be cooked in a number of ways. Here is the recipe for stir fried tofu, which is one of the most popular tofu dishes.
You will need the following ingredients for this dish:
- 2 cups rice;
- ½ cup peas;
- ½ cup cauliflower;
- 1 cup broccoli;
- ¼ cup mushrooms, sliced;
- 1 cup carrots, sliced;
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced;
- 1 onion, diced;
- 1 tbsp canola oil;
- 1 cup tofu, cubed;
- 1 tbsp chili pepper, minced;
- 1 tbsp peeled ginger root, minced;
- 4 cloves garlic, minced;
- 2 tbsp soy sauce; and
- ½ cup stock.
Combine the stock, garlic, soy sauce, chili pepper, and ginger root in a bowl. Mix these ingredients well, then add the tofu cubes.
Set this mixture aside to marinate for 12 hours to one day. Avoid opening the container of the mixture while it is marinating.
Pre-heat a frying pan or a wok over medium heat. Then add the oil, carrots, onion, and the bell pepper. Stir the vegetables so that they will cook evenly. Sauté and cook the vegetables for about 4 to 5 minutes.
Remove the tofu from the marinade. Using a slotted spoon, place the tofu in a small plate. Pour the marinade into the pan of stir fried vegetables and cook for another 2 minutes.
Add the cauliflower, broccoli, peas, and mushrooms in the frying pan and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
Finally, add the tofu and cook until the vegetables are crisp. This may take around 2 to 3 minutes. Be careful not to overcook the tofu. Once it is cooked, place the vegetables and tofu on a plate. This dish is best served over steaming rice.
