Steps to Install a Shower Door

  1. Remove your current shower rod and curtain. Fill the holes with glue if the rod is held by screws on the wall. Let the glue dry completely. If you are going to replace an old shower door, remove all of its sealant. This will ensure that the new sealant will have a flat surface.

  2. Measure your tub’s length at the center of its ledge. This is the area where the door crack would go. At this point, remember to cut off 3/8” from one of the ends of the shower track to make it easy for the vertical parts to slide into place.

  3. Shop for your shower door. Home improvement stores are good sources of this type of product. Shower doors have installation manuals which will give you the specific instructions for setting them up.

  4. Lay the tub channel along the middle of the tub edge. The higher side should be facing out. Mark the channel on the tub with masking tape.

  5. Do the wall channel layout. See to it that the walls are clean. Carefully slide the channel around the tub channel. Use a pencil to indicate in the channel where the drill holes would be. You can then proceed to drill the holes.

  6. Install the shower door. Apply an amount of sealant on the tub edge. Press the channel into its position and tape it. Slide the vertical pieces in place on the channel where you applied the sealant. Screw the pieces carefully. Locate one end of the top bar and cut 1/16” from it. Slide it in place when the sealant has dried. Finally, take off the top piece. Slide the door to its proper position.
