How to Solve the Rubik’s Cube

A Rubik’s Cube is a cube made up of multi-colored blocks. It is a puzzle with parts that can be moved so that all 6 sides are made up of the same color or pattern. It can be solved by moving the sides.

Start by choosing a corner square located in the upper right hand of any side. Turn the cube around so that the corner square that you chose and the center square are of the same color or pattern.

Twist the whole cube to the left side. Turn it so that the new right upper hand corner has the same color with the box on the front and on top center. Do the same procedure until all the top corners are of the same color.

Find and position the cubes to finish the uppermost level. Keep in mind any upper cubes you must reposition out of space. Remember how to put them back in the end.

Work out the middle part of the cube by bringing the center cubes into line and placing the edges. Change the mid-level of the cube such that the centers are all on the proper sides, then position the center edge cube in their correct positions.

Invert the entire cube such that the final undone level is on top, and make the corner cubes correspond with the center cube on the uppermost level.

Make sure the remaining two edge corners coincide with one another. The cubes with dominant color or pattern should be shaped like a fish on the top side or an H.

Finish the only remaining two cubes. By then, the side of the cube is solved. Repeat the procedure until all sides are solved.

Algorithms

There are algorithms that give instructions for solving a Rubik’s cube. The one above is just an example.

It is vital to adapt the instructions for your hands. Individuals’ hands and coordination vary; some are left-handed, some are right-handed, and some may favor algorithms which only use 2 or 3 faces so that alternating movements from right to left hand are avoided. There are even algorithms that are better performed with the inverted cube. Some even combine algorithms to minimize turning of the cube.

Adjust and adapt any algorithms you choose. Practice and patience is needed to solve the whole cube.
